Good day today. Am blogging in my truck from my phone. Geocached this morning. Found an unmarked one room schoolhouse and a former train depot for Henrietta, Il, in northern DeKalb County. I finished off a series for each day in August. It took me down many a country road I'd never been down before.

I found 17 cents tonight, all pennies, at the company terminal.

The air conditioning is fixed on Red Sonja, my semi. Now it's cool enough I don't need it. Story of my life.

Had a big family gathering at my house today to visit with my brother Mike and his new bride, Becky. He is moving from North Carolina to Chico, CA, to be with his wife. It will be nice to have a family connection in one of my favorite states.

I have been very neglectful of this blog, but I hate using my phone for it and do not have Internet at home. The latter may be remedied soon.

Home sweet home

In less than two weeks, on June 7, we are closing the sale on this house. It is an older home, built around 1900, but well maintained with many new features throughout, including a new water heater, furnace, and a recently done roof. It is a corner lot at 614 DeKalb Ave., in Sycamore, kitty corner from the police and fire station and close to downtown. We chose this place because it felt like home and doesn't require us to make any lifestyle modifications, such as commute or switch schools for Jonny.

This is a major commitment of time and resources, but Esther and I are both secure in our jobs and in the knowledge that we want to provide for Jonny the same quality of life experience that we enjoyed,  to grow up in a stable home environment and community. I can still visit the only home I knew the first 21 years of my life in Loves Park, where my retired parents have lived for more than 45 years. And while I certainly may not live in this house for as long, we intend to make it our home as long as Jonny lives with us.

Now is also a good time to buy a house, and first time homebuyers like us can find a good investment at historically low interest rates. So, in addition to fitting where our lives are at, the time is right for this kind of purchase.

Long neglected

This blog has been neglected since De ember, as has work on my novel. But I plan to resume both really soon. I am sitting in my truck beside the road in Denmark, WI, waiting for confirmation from clueless dispatchers that the load which is not ready really isn't ready. But if I don't hear back in about 15 minutes, I'm rolling. I want to get on with my weekend.

Been so busy lately. Esther and I renewed our vows on May 11. The planning and execution of that shindig took some work. Plus, we are buying a house. That's a lot of work. And of course there's work. I hate typing on smart phones. This is too much work.
